About near Atoka, Oklahoma
The city of Atoka, Oklahoma is one with a lengthy and important history. Atoka was named after the leader of the Choctaw Nation, Captain Atoka. Captain Atoka's signature was found on the Treaty of the Dancing Rabbit Creek, the treaty that started the movement of the Choctaw people from Mississippi to Oklahoma in 1830. The city of Atoka was an important stop for the United States mail service.
Currently Atoka serves as the county seat of Atoka County. Atoka is still located on today's modern day trade route of US Highway 69/75. Atoka can be found at the center of it all with Dallas, Oklahoma City and Tulsa not more than 140 mikes away.
With a current population approaching 3,000 residents, and Atoka County slightly over 14,000, the city of Atoka is growing.
